Anti-gay pundit claims that he is the victim

Scott Lively
Of all of the 36 anti-gay pundits on GLAAD's Media Accountability Project, I would say that Scott Lively has done more than enough to make the list and then some.

The following are his stats:

Former state director for the California branch of American Family Association, which Southern Poverty Law Center named a Hate Group, and formed anti-gay Watchmen on the Walls group based in Latvia.

Facts
Called for the criminalization of "the public advocacy of homosexuality."
Is directly linked to anti-gay legislation in Uganda, which makes simply being gay punishable by death.
- Because of his intense influence and work in Uganda, has been blamed for the death of equality advocate David Kato.
- Is now advocating for anti-gay activism in Moldavia.

However according to Lively, he is being attacked for supposedly telling a basic truth. At least that's what he implies in a recent piece on his Defend The Family webpage. He wrote the piece after a lawsuit was announced against him in federal court for his "activities" in Uganda.

Lively, however says that he is being unfairly persecuted because he is supposedly speaking the truth about homosexuality:

Implicit in all “gay” propaganda (and this lawsuit) is the narrative that all disapproval of homosexuality leads inevitably to hatred and violence against homosexuals. Why? Because disapproval of homosexuality is a mental illness called homophobia, an anxiety disorder grounded in fear of homosexuals. Thus, in “gay” logic, to preach against homosexuality is to provoke mentally unbalanced people to do violence against these innocents whom they irrationally fear.

No where in his one-man pity party does Lively say a word about his repeated call for the criminalization of homosexuality. However, he did take it upon himself to trash the late activist David Kato, whose murder his rhetoric has been blamed on:

In Uganda, the “gay” movement seemingly found the ideal case to fit its narrative. A white American pastor preached against homosexuality to a society of backwards, homophobic Blacks, leading to pubic debate and a legislative bill dealing harshly with homosexual conduct (which I opposed), culminating in the murder of David Kato, a leader of the “gay” movement there. Finally, proof of the thesis.

However, missing from the media frenzy (and the pages of the lawsuit) is the simple fact that David Kato was not murdered by a deranged “homophobe.” He was killed by a “gay” male prostitute whom Kato had bailed out of jail to be his live-in lover. This man, now serving a 30 year sentence in a Ugandan prison, confessed to bashing in Kato’s skull with a hammer when he failed to pay him for sexual favors as promised. The reality supports my thesis, not theirs.

Ah yes, we heard it before. "The gay man caused his own death because he was so sexually aggressive that the other person panicked and was forced to kill him."

The "gay panic" defense is a standard tactic of a homophobe. We heard it in the case of Matthew Shepard, in the case of Billy Jack Gaither, and in the cases of so many other gay men butchered without dignity.

"It's their fault," folks like Lively would say. "If they hadn't been so sexually aggressive then the other person wouldn't have been forced to beat them to death with a hammer, or bludgeon them with a butt of a gun and then hang their body on a fence in below freezing temperature, or beat them with an axe handle and then set their bodies on fire. Isn't it obvious who the bad guys are here?"

Yes it's obvious who the bad guys are here - the monsters who butcher gay men and then pull a gay panic defense. And the folks like Lively who aid and abet this awful practice and other homophobic acts in the name of God and then pretend as if they don't know what the fuss is all about.

Let's not forget that "gay panic" and "blame the victim" was used as a defense for Brandon McInerney.

Brandon murdered 15 year old middle school student Lawrence "Larry" King by shooting him twice in the back of the heard while in class.

Reminds me so much of the (white) Citizens' Council Newsletters. Take "Life Can Quote Scripture For Its Own Purposes" in the Nov. 2, 1955 issue, for starters.

Let him keep talking away and telling his lies. Just more stuff to put on his GLAAD CAP profile. The more they talk the deeper the hole they dig.

Lively and his cohorts can't seem to say anything without spewing hate.
